At Catch A Fire we’ve always seen our work as an opportunity to make a difference to the people and planet around us, and to work with brands that share the same ethos. We don’t claim to be saints, but we do like to think our intentions are good, so it’s a natural step for us to work towards becoming a part of the B Corp community of businesses who are working to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.
The B Corp community is based on a collective belief that society’s most challenging problems cannot be solved by government and non-profits alone. It’s about harnessing the power of business, using profits and growth for the greater good: for reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of more high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose. More than a slogan and a website full of good intentions, the B Corps community walks the talk – and it’s gone global – pushing for positive change in 74 countries, across 150 industries. In short, it’s about better business. And from a Catch A Fire perspective, it’s a match made in heaven.
Judge us on the good we can do, not just the good work we create
The way we choose our creative projects has always been a bit of a no-brainer: we want the companies that stand for something good in this world to prosper more than the ones that don’t. We think that, just by going about our daily business, there’s something we can all do to drive positive change. That’s why we always strive to partner with those businesses and brands that mirror our values. For us it’s never been about creativity for creativity’s sake. It’s about creativity for everyone’s sake.
Becoming a B Corp Business
We’re a business with a social conscience and a purpose-driven team, motivated to do work that really matters, to help our clients create real value from purpose. By committing to becoming a Certified B Corp, we’re extending our reach and contributing to a global movement of businesses intent on being a force for good. This important next step takes our ethos, values, mission and vision – the building blocks upon which we built Catch A Fire – to the next level: from an ambition to a solid and verified commitment that people can trust and believe in. It’s the natural and obvious next step for us as an agency.
As a Certified B Corp business, we’ll be able to maximise our social and environmental impact. Ranging from our clients and our suppliers, to the local community where we operate, and the Catch A Fire team itself, we want our work to benefit everyone it touches, whilst consciously limiting the environmental footprint we leave behind.
Working as equals
Equality of opportunity is right up there with environmental credentials when it comes to B Corps businesses and growing as an inclusive team was top of mind for us from the start. To us, equality means attracting and celebrating talent and how we can create the right working environment to enable every member of our team to thrive and grow. From marketing communications experts to digital design geniuses, social media gurus to marvellous motion designers, from junior roles, all the way up to director level, we’re all working under the same roof – albeit a virtual one. We’ve never had an ‘office-first’ mentality and empower our team to work in the best way for them, as part of a hybrid workplace. Nurturing, retaining and developing talent is important to us. We actively encourage the team to gain work experience and explore career paths across the different areas of the business, to discover, develop and refine their skills for the future.
Balancing profit and purpose
When it comes to making a difference, we love to give something back. But we think dishing out the cash is the easy bit. That’s why we’re committed to donating the time, thought and hard work of every member of our team, to help out with positive projects in the community.
Part of our business is also dedicated to local brands, our ‘local jewels’. We’re conscious that our business is part of a community and it means a lot to us. The global pandemic has left many of our local businesses and charities hanging by a thread and we want to do what we can to help them survive, and thrive.
In previous years we have volunteered our expertise and services to FareShare, Thank You Care Workers and West Kent Mind, to name a few, supporting them with creative, design and social campaigns. This year we are proud to support a local charity that is close to our hearts, The Weald Family Hub. The Weald Family Hub enables a number of local primary schools to receive professional mental health counselling for their pupils – schools that many of our own children attend.
One thing’s for sure, positive change in business is on the way and we’re excited to have the opportunity to add to the momentum. If you’re thinking about how to become a better business, or even a B Corps Business, a visit to bcorporation.net is a great place to start.
We’re all in this together, after all.
