Don’t Rely on AI: Our Webinar Summary
Ignite Webinar #5: Don’t Rely on AI: Let Your Creative Do the Talking. Why great marketing still needs goosebumps, not just graphs.
AI has transformed digital marketing—speeding things up, sharpening targeting, and making data work harder than ever. But in all the buzz and bandwidth, one thing became clear during our recent Ignite webinar: while artificial intelligence is clever, it still can’t feel. And in a world built on connection, that matters.
Hosted by our ever-curious Senior Strategist, Bella Ali Khan, Don’t Rely on AI: Let Your Creative Do the Talking brought together two brilliant minds—Rachel Aldighale, CEO of the DMA, and Ekaterina Galovanov, Digital Director at L’Oréal Lux. Together, they unpacked where AI excels, where it stumbles, and why creative thinking is still your brand’s sharpest edge.
If you’ve been following our take on AI, you’ll know we’ve never been ones to plug and play without a pause. In this piece on balancing AI and creativity, we looked at how automation should amplify, not replace, imagination. This webinar took that thinking and turned up the volume.
Let AI make space—but not decisions
AI is a brilliant time-gifter. It can automate the repetitive, enhance targeting, and scale content faster than you can say “chatbot.” But as Ekaterina pointed out, its true value lies in freeing up headspace for the kind of thinking machines can’t do—yet.
By handing over the heavy-lifting, marketers can zoom out. Think bigger. Make work that doesn’t just perform well but feels right. Which is exactly what we explored in our deep dive into AI tools transforming targeting. Because great marketing isn’t just about hitting the bullseye. It’s about earning it—with insight, story and a dose of humanity.
Personalised? Yes. Robotic? Never.
With personalisation on the rise, the line between tailored and terrifying is getting thin. Rachel introduced the DMA’s “People Principle” as a north star—ensuring that data-led marketing remains ethical, inclusive and invisible (in the best possible way).
The goal? Ads that feel like they just get you, not like they’ve been following you for days. It’s a sentiment we echoed in our piece on saying goodbye to creepy cookies, where we championed a future built on trust, not tracking. That thinking continued here—with a clear message: let your customers feel seen, not surveilled.
Creativity + AI = Better Together
The real sweet spot? Where AI precision meets human perspective. Ekaterina shared that blending the two improved campaign effectiveness by over 25%. That’s not just incremental—that’s intentional. But even then, AI should be questioned. It can simulate, suggest, and scale—but it can’t decide what’s right for your brand. That’s where human judgment still rules.
Whether you’re experimenting with synthetic data, nudging your team past AI fatigue, or debating how to integrate new tools, the message from the session was clear: start small. Share success. And only use AI when it adds actual value, not just noise.
As Bella wrapped up: “Creativity comes from human experience, judgment and insight. Let AI enhance that—but never replace it.” Because at the end of the day, the magic doesn’t lie in the algorithm. It lives in the idea. In the emotion. In the spark that only real humans can create.
